A New Music Hunting Project

I’m undoubtedly annoying a lot of the people who’re wondering what the heck is going on in my life lately by writing this post, but for a short big longer I’m going to sidestep that conversation to let everyone know that [twenty-nine] has a baby brother, and he’s called [Two Nine], another super duper way to share music with anyone who’s interested.

What Was [twenty-nine]?

If you’re unfamiliar with [twenty-nine], it was a project conceived of on my 29th birthday (last year) during the holidays, as I was frequently being asked about the tunes I had been following.  Somewhere along the line I realized I’d gotten a reputation of new music hunting, and generally making music a topic of conversation.  Whether I deserved that reputation is up for debate, but I realized that I’d been blogging about my life for years and largely didn’t have anywhere to send people when asked about music.

Enter [twenty-nine], a monthly mixtape sent out via an email subscription list, housed on this blog.

Eventually, keeping up with those mixtapes wasn’t the easiest thing for me (it certainly wasn’t the hardest, either) so as the year wrapped up I decided it would end fittingly along with my 29th year.  You can still grab those tapes, although I’m not sure how long that will be true (…so go do it now).

So Now What?

I want to share music with friends, family, and anyone else who’s interested.  It keeps me on my toes.

What I don’t want to can’t do is spend a day each month putting together a big virtual present for everyone, mostly due to a lack of time.  It’s also stressful, which isn’t what music hunting should be about.

That lead me to a lighter, more frequent method of sharing, which I’m sure I’ll tweak a bit, but will allow me to quickly get music out and to do so in the same easy downloadable way, on a simple interface that lets you listen to everything before you snag it. I’m aiming for a song a day around lunch time.

The new format also allowed me to add some things I’m hoping will enhance the experience a bit.  One feature I longed for with the mixtapes was the ability to comment briefly on each individual song.  It also wasn’t a great format for any sort of collaboration; many of you sent music recs my way, but by the time the next mixtape rolled around they became a bit stale (per se).  This go around will solve both of those ‘problems’.

The goal is still to share grippy music. Stuff people might find interesting in one way or another.

I hope you enjoy it.

Spread the word, too, because this kinda thing is always more fun with more people involved.

its funny, I reread my comment a few times before I posted it...and I thought to myself, that I actually did feel a bit uncomfortable without, at the very least, leaving one typo. Totally uncool for sure ;)

So, technically, to keep my game face on.... I wrote "its" and not "It's". I hope I have redeemed myself!

as for line 3... It's not me. It's you.
  • Perfect. We're back to normal:)

So, while I am clearly way behind on "twenty-nine" .....I hope to get to play catch up with baby bro Two Nine!

ps do you have any idea how awesome you are? umm yea. very. I dont know how you do it all, but I highly look up to you. hi-5!
  • I searched that whole comment and couldn't find a typo.

    NOT COOL:)

    Seriously, stop being so nice.
  • YES. I was so wondering what was going to happen next, as I have greatly enjoyed these mixtapes and have discovered a wealth of great music from you. I've tried going back to re-download a couple of the old ones and get error messages on the mixable.net site. Any idea what's up there or how to access the old stuff? I lost it all when I switched iTunes libraries and resynced things... sad!
  • Yeah, mixable may not work. They should have a second download, no? If not
let me know which tape here and I'll find it. I may be missing one or two
    on my server.
